A 60-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a suspected drunk driver on Thursday night, said a Mobile Police Department spokesman.
Celestine Perryman, 44, was booked into Mobile County Metro Jail around 11:55 p.m., according to jail records. She is facing one count of vehicular homicide in the case.
Around 7:55 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called to an accident at the intersection of Summerville Street and Roberta Drive, said MPD spokesman Sgt. Christopher Levy.
When they arrived, they learned Perryman had been driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer when she hit Juanita Wheat, 60. Wheat was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center, where she later died, Levy said.
Investigators believe Perryman was “under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash,” Levy said.
