Mobile Police say a man on a bicycle was struck and killed near downtown Saturday night.

A motorist is now in jail facing vehicular homicide and his second DUI charge.

“He ran over him like a dog, drug him right there,” said a woman who witnessed the accident from nearby Ryan Park.

Police say the accident happened just before midnight; in daylight, green paint outlines the grisly scene.

Family and friends identified the victim as 59-year-old Edward Mack. He would have turned 60 in three days.

“He has a daughter in Georgia, he’s not married and he has two grandkids,” said Valerie Bradley.

A witness told FOX10 News, Mack was crossing St.Francis Street on his bike as the suspect’s car sped toward Bayou Street.

“He had the light, but the dude crossing with the bicycle, when he hit him he was speeding because he hit him and rolled him on top of the hood.  Like I said he rolled off the top of the hood man drug him up under the car to that spot where the bloods at,” she said.

Even though Mack was struck within yards of Mobile’s Central Fire Station, by the time police officers and paramedics reached him, it was already too late.

They pronounced him dead at the scene.

Mobile Police arrested 28-year-old Alexander Graf at the scene. He’s charged with vehicular homicide and DUI, his second DUI charge since 2006.
