A Milwaukee police officer has been hospitalized after being hit by a wrong-way driver.

Officer Joshua Albert is in Froedtert Hospital in critical condition.  The driver who hit him is also in critical condition.

It’s a series of events that are hard to believe, but it happens more than you might think.

Shawn Green was startled by what he saw and heard just after midnight Wednesday.  “I just saw a lot of emergency vehicles, I heard a big accident.” said Green to TODAY’S TMJ4.

Police say 23-year-old Erin Salmon was driving the wrong way on I-94 when she hit officer Joshua Albert head-on on his way home from work.

Whitefish Bay, WI: Man Charged With 6th OWI – Whitefish Bay, WI Patch

A 50-year-old Milwaukee man is facing felony drunk driving charges after he was spotted by a Whitefish Bay police officer turning without using his turn signal Sunday.

James C. Zarske was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Monday with one count of sixth offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

A police officer on patrol Sunday spotted Zarske approach a stop sign at East Lexington Boulevard and North Marlborough Drive, then not make a complete stop before turning onto Marlborough without using a turn signal. He then pulled Zarske over and noticed the strong smell of alcohol in the car.

Zarske failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. While being arrested he pleaded with the officer, “Can’t you just let me slide?”

Ozaukee Co., WI: $25K bond ordered for man accused in fatal OWI crash killing his passenger – WTAQ.com

A $25,000 bond was ordered Monday for a suburban Milwaukee man accused of causing a drunk driving crash that killed a female passenger.

Prosecutors said Jaron Omon’s blood alcohol level was 0.22 – almost three times the maximum – when he lost control of his vehicle on County Trunk C near Grafton early Sunday.

Authorities said Omon was taking Kelly Phillips home when he crashed the vehicle. Phillips, also of Port Washington, was killed.

He’s charged in Ozaukee County with homicide by intoxicated driving. Omon is due back in court a week from Monday, when a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to order a trial.

Milwaukee: Mother sentenced to 5 years in prison for driving drunk, killing daughter – TODAYSTMJ4.com

A drunk driver who killed her own daughter was sentenced to five years in prison Friday.

TODAY’S TMJ4′s Nick Montes reports it was emotional day in court as family members took the stand and told the judge how this tragedy has changed their lives.

Sheriff’s deputies led Brandy Allen away in handcuffs — after a judge sentenced her for killing her 10-year-old daughter Brianna Johnson last December.

“We won’t tolerate intoxicated driving,” said Judge Rebecca Dallet.  “The consequences are too great.”

Allen was driving drunk when Brianna’s younger sister distracted her.

That’s when Allen’s car slammed into the back of a parked semi, killing Brianna and injuring her 5-year-old sister.

A judge sentenced her to five years in prison and six years extended supervision.

Wauwatosa, WI: Woman Charged With 6th OWI After Driving Drunk on Highway 45 – Wauwatosa, WI Patch

A 56-year-old Delavan woman is facing her sixth drunk driving charge after she was caught speeding and driving erratically through Wauwatosa.

Consuelo Ehmke was charged Tuesday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of sixth-offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Saturday, a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy was travelling southbound on Highway 45 near West North Avenue during a heavy downpour when Ehmke came past doing 70 to 75 miles per hour, then slammed on her brakes once she got about two car lengths in front of the squad.

A 25-year-old Milwaukee man is facing felony drunk driving charges after he was caught passed out behind the wheel of his car Monday at a Greenfield intersection.

Samuel J. Rinehart was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Tuesday with one count of fifth offense operating while intoxicated and one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of his license. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

A Greenfield police officer on patrol Monday saw Rinehart passed out behind the wheel of his car at the intersection of South 108th Street and West Beloit Road. The car was running and was in drive, but Rinehart had his foot on the brake pedal.

Darrin Tomasczak was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

A 50-year-old Dousman woman who was arrested Thursday after she was spotted driving the wrong way on West Burleigh Street in Wauwatosa has now been charged with her fifth drunk driving offense.

Kari L. Campbell was charged Saturday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated and one count of operating a motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration. If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Milwaukee: Woman pleads guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of vehicle in daughter’s death | FOX6Now.com

Brandy AllenThe woman accused of killing her daughter while driving drunk pleaded guilty Monday morning, April 16th to two of five counts against her. Prosecutors say 37-year-old Brandy Allen was drunk when she crashed into a parked semi trailer, killing one of her daughters and critically injuring the other.

In court Monday, Allen pleaded guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle. In exchange for those guilty pleas, prosecutors dropped three other charges.

Milwaukee, WI: Video and police response to officer apparently striking DUI subject. – WISN

Milwaukee police are responding to an arrest posted on YouTube that shows an officer striking a suspect.

A statement from Milwaukee police said officers arrested a suspected drunken driver Thursday around 11 p.m. in the 200 block of East Juneau Avenue.

The police statement said a sergeant observed Jeffrey Strasser, 39, operating a 2008 Lamborghini in a manner that posed a danger to the public.
