A popular lawyer running for town justice in Ossining was killed by a drunken motorist Tuesday night as he was putting up campaign signs on Route 9A in Ossining, police said.

The victim, John Mangialardi, 55, of Briarcliff Manor, had a law office in Hartsdale and previously served as an assistant district attorney in the Bronx and as a lieutenant colonel with the New York Guard.

Michelle Sergio, 38, of Nanuet has been charged with driving while intoxicated after Westchester County police said her northbound Nissan Altima struck and killed Mangialardi at about 10:15 p.m. as he was crossing Route 9A at Route 134, police said.
