Hanford High football coach Josh Young — already suspended five games after his weekend arrest on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol — has been suspended from practice for five weeks as well.

Bullpups Athletic Director Beau Hill said Young will not receive coaching pay during this period, but his teaching salary will be unaffected as he remains in the classroom and supervising the team’s weightlifting class.

Ernie Rodriguez, the team’s offensive coordinator, has been named interim coach.

Abbeville, LA: Vermilion Catholic head football coach suspended following DWI charge (see comment thread) | KATC.com

Vermilion Catholic High School’s new head football coach is charged with DWI and open container. Abbeville police officers pulled over Richard “Roch” Charpentier, 26, at 11:16 Tuesday night, according to Lt. David Hardy of the Abbeville Police Dept. He said a breath test showed Charpentier’s blood alcohol level was .123, and the legal limit is .08.

Charpentier replaces Trev Faulk as head football coach after Faulk, in June, accepted the head football coach position at Northside High School in Lafayette. It’s unknown how the school will handle Charpentier’s DWI charge. Principal Mike Guilbeaux was in a meeting when we called for comment. KATC will have an update when we hear from him.

Suspected of DUI resulting in fatality

One person is dead and another is injured after a car crash on Bangerter Highway Saturday morning.

An SUV rear-ended a passenger car while stopped at a red light at the intersection of 9800 South and Bangerter Highway at 3 a.m.

The passenger car burst into flames, killing the driver, later identified as Michael Gallegos, 39, of Taylorsville.

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital conscious and breathing.

A Public Information Officer said the SUV was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed.

According to Lieutenant Evans from the South Jordan Police Department, the suspect, 23-year-old Blake Molder, was charged with a felony DUI and automobile homicide.

Gallegos was an assistant football coach at Cottonwood High School.

Andrews ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jeff Cordell has been placed on administrative leave with pay after being arrested early Saturday morning for driving while intoxicated.

Andrews ISD Superintendent Bobby Azam said Wednesday that Cordell was placed on leave this week and as a district Andrews ISD was “going to follow all the legal requirements in our policy, and it will be addressed and we will move forward with this.”

Cordell was arrested about 6 miles south of Andrews on US Highway 385 by Department of Public Safety troopers.

Tulsa, OK: High school football coach arrested on DUI complaint. Dozed off in fast-food drive-thru @ 3 a.m. | Tulsa World

<span class="mugshot">Ben Bowling</mugshot>East Central’s recently promoted head football coach was arrested early Sunday on a complaint of driving under the influence.

About 3 a.m., police officers found Ben Bowling, 31, asleep in the drive-thru lane at Whataburger, 5746 E. 41st St., according to his arrest report. The car, which was in park, was running.

Bowling had bloodshot eyes, staggered gait, slurred speech and smelled like alcohol, Tulsa police said in the report.

A breathalyzer registered his blood-alcohol content at the scene as .203
