Columbia, SC: Man charged with felony DUI in deadly pedestrian crash in Five Points

William Carlen (Source: Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center)Columbia Police have charged a man with felony DUI for a deadly crash in Five Points Saturday morning that killed a pedestrian.

24-year-old William Carlen is held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center charged with felony DUI, driving under suspension and failure to surrender a suspended drivers license.

Police say Carlen was driving south on Harden Street at about 4 a.m. Saturday when a pedestrian was hit and killed in the crosswalk at the intersection of Harden and Greene Streets.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s name.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from area cameras to gather more clues.

A 24-year-old woman, Ashley Martinez, was killed early Sunday after she was struck by an alleged drunk driver, who was charged with murder.

Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell said the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Hurstbourne Parkway near South Watterson Trail.

“A man driving a Toyota was going eastbound in the westbound lane and struck a woman driving a Honda Civic who was driving in the westbound lane,” Mitchell said. “As a result of this accident, the female received fatal injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.”

Toni NievesToni Nieves, who was on probation for DUI when she drove drunk again, crashed and killed two men shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day 2010, was sentenced today to 10 years in prison.

The two-vehicle crash on Jones Avenue near Zellwood killed Bradley Summersill, 18, who was a West Orange High School student, and Brian Walker, 22, of Orlando. The two were headed to Astatula to pick up a friend’s mother.

Holland, WI: Driver in fatal crash intoxicated | journaltimes.com

La Crosse County sheriff’s officials say the driver who died in a rollover crash that also killed a passenger was intoxicated.

The single-vehicle crash on county Highway XX in the town of Holland was discovered about 6 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities Friday identified the driver as Ethan Anderson and said he had a blood alcohol content of .21. The passenger was identified as Samuel Haug, who was also intoxicated. Both were 21 years old and from Holmen.

Investigators say Anderson was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control and rolled in a field, ejecting Haug.

Canon, GA: 2nd death from 3-vehicle crash last week. – MadisonJournalTODAY

A Madison County man was one of two fatalities in a Franklin County wreck last week caused by an alleged drunk driver.

Billy “Joey” Hart, 41, Hull, died in a three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 17 in Canon April 16. Bobby William Bland, 77, Reidsville, was also killed in the wreck, according to a spokesperson for the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol.

James Thomas Dixon, 43, Franklin Springs, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident and Julia Sikes Powell, 80, Reidsville, was taken to Anderson Area Medical Center.

Dixon faces several charges related to the accident, including two counts of homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence (DUI) and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.

Tacony, PA: DUI, Murder Charges in Tacony Crash That Killed 2 | NBC 10 Philadelphia

A young woman and man were killed this morning when another car blew through a stop sign, according to police, and hit their car with such force that it caught fire. The couple had to be pulled from the wreckage and neighbors tried to save them, but it was too late.

The woman, 26 and her passenger, a 31-year-old man were both pronounced dead at the scene. Now the man who allegedly drove through the stop sign is charged with driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI and murder. Police identified him Thursday night as George Vidra, 26.

Lancaster, CA: DUI suspect arrested in death of Lancaster motorcyclist – LA Daily News

A suspected drunken driver was arrested Monday for allegedly driving the wrong way on a Lancaster area street, causing a head-on collision that killed a motorcyclist, then trying to flee.

The collision occurred at 50th Street East south of Avenue I, just north of the Lancaster city limits, at 2:42 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.

CHP investigators said Marie Delores Hidalgo of Lancaster was driving a 2000 Honda Civic south on 50th Street East while in the northbound lane, traveling about 55 mph, when her compact car struck the motorcyclist.

Moab, UT: DUI suspected in fatal Moab crash – ABC4.com

  (UHP)Utah Highway Patrol troopers say alcohol may have been a factor in a fatal head-on collision near Moab over the weekend.

According to the UHP, the crash happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday on State Road 191 at Mile Marker 110, 15 miles South of Moab.

Troopers say a 32-year-old man from Arizona was driving south in a green Ford Taurus at a high rate of speed and very reckless when he crossed over into the northbound lane and struck a Ford Escape head-on.

The UHP says 57-year-old Filemon Montoya af Sweetwater, Texas was driving the Escape and was killed on impact despite wearing a seat belt.

Holden, LA: Fatal crash leads to DWI, negligent homicide counts | The Advocate

A Hammond man was killed Sunday and a passenger in his car injured after a drunk driver rear-ended the man’s car on La. 441 near Holden, Louisiana State Police reported.

Manual Garcia, 32, of Walker, was booked on counts of driving while intoxicated, reckless operation, hit and run, vehicular homicide and vehicular negligent injuring after the pickup-truck he was driving struck a car driven by Dean Albares, Trooper Russell Graham said in a news release.

Albares’ car was forced off the roadway and spun before hitting a tree, Graham said.

Darlene Walter, of Scotia, was killed instantly in the 4:55 a.m. crash near the intersection of Route 9J and Stony Point Road, Senior Investigator Andy Crowe said.

“The direct impact of the crash was to the passenger side. That side of the truck took the brunt of the damage,” he said.

The driver, Lisa Hartigan, was charged with driving while intoxicated

The former Mecca fire chief received a seven-year prison sentence Friday after pleading guilty to felony charges of causing death and serious bodily injury while driving drunk in June 2011.

Michael R. Collom, 39, was ordered to serve five years in the Indiana Department of Correction, followed by two years in the community corrections program.

Lynchburg, VA: Bedford woman charged with DUI and 2 counts of manslaughter – Roanoke.com

Amy Phillips, 28, of Bedford has been charged with DUI and two counts of manslaughter after an early-morning Saturday accident in Lynchburg.

According to a press release from the Lynchburg Police Department, Phillips was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer eastbound on Timberlake Road at a “high rate of speed” and struck a 2005 Honda Civic traveling westbound on the same road at about 2:13 a.m. Saturday.

The Honda was being driven by John Hawkins, 26, of Lynchburg. In addition, Garry Moore, 26, of Spout Springs was in the front passenger seat of Hawkins’ car.

Both Hawkins and Moore were pronounced dead at the scene

Mingo Co., WV: Man indicted after DUI crash that killed one

Joshua Miller, a former corrections employee, is indicted in connection with a fatal crash that killed another man.

The crash happened along Corridor G near Borderland in Mingo County, West Virginia in October 2011.

Adam York, 21, was a passenger in the crash vehicle who died as a result.
