A Thibodaux bicyclist was struck and killed by a drunk driver along La. 308 this morning just outside ths city limits, State Police said.
Ethen Miller, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after being struck by a 2010 Jeep Wrangler just after midnight, Troop C said in a news release.
The Wrangler’s driver, Brent Tauzin, 40, also of Thibodaux, fled, and police said they found his SUV at his Thibodaux home shortly afterward.
Tauzin submitted to a breath test that determined he had a blood-alcohol content of .194, which is more than double the legal limit of .08, Troop C said. He was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, hit-and-run and improper lane usage. Tauzin, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
Police said Miller was not wearing a helmet. Helmets are required by law In Louisiana only for children under 12 who ride on public roads and sidewalks.
