A 25-year-old woman died early Wednesday after her boyfriend crashed into another vehicle on the West Side, allegedly while intoxicated.

Ashley Izaguirre was pronounced dead at University Hospital around 1 a.m., according to the Bexar County medical examiner’s office, about an hour after the crash.

San Antonio police said at 11:50 p.m., Izaguirre’s boyfriend, Danny Wayne Johnson, 25, was seen speeding — witnesses estimated his speed was between 80 and 100 mph —on Bandera Road in a silver Toyota Corolla.

The car crashed into the front of a pickup whose driver was attempting to turn left from Stonegate Drive, and the impact of the crash tore the front off of the truck, police said. The Corolla then traveled east in the westbound lanes, according to police, rolled over and crashed into a wrought-iron fence at Madison Elementary School.

Johnson was detained at the scene and remains in police custody at University Hospital, where he’s being treated for injuries not thought to be life-threatening. Police say he faces one count of intoxication manslaughter.

A woman and her 6-year-old daughter who were inside the truck sustained minor injuries and were taken to University Hospital, police said.
