He was a chief in the Navy, and was Loved by many! He has an Amazing wife he left behind and two young boys 6 & 8. This is so senseless and the pain this family is in is so heartbreaking! Please people do not drink and Drive!! Have a plan in place before your night starts!! There is no excuse for this!

He forwarded this update from the April 19, 2013 edition of the Sweetwater Reporter —

A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 12 people this past week. Four of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:

Gustavo Lopez Cervantes, 36, from Wichita Falls, was indicted for intoxicated manslaughter, a second degree felony. Court documents state that Cervantes operated a motor vehicle while intoxicated on Nov. 23, 2012.

Cervantes was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram eastbound in the westbound passing lane of IH-20. He was wearing a seat belt.

Cory Lynn Carlile, 41, from Rowlett, was driving a 2006 Toyota SXC westbound at the same location. The vehicles struck head on. Carlile was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Sharon Gardner at 3:24 a.m. Carlile was wearing a seat belt.

Cervantes has a bond set of $15,000.

This is a story that Screams the Battle between Good and Evil. You have the EVIL, (JR FERRER) who spent a day and night at a trashy strip joint shoving good money down a strippers thong and drinking it up then leaves to run down and KILL the GOOD “Jason Strickland” who spent his life and Heart saving lives everyday of his as a Grady EMT and who had just gotten off from work and on his way home when Ferrer ran him over leaving Stricklands Motorcycle stuck to the front of his truck while throwing him into the oncoming path of a Tractor Trailer who hit Strickland and then was hit by a couple more cars before his now body in pieces lay across the interstate. Ferrer had a baby at home while drinking and partying it up at the strip club and Strickland had many children at home who will never see their daddy again. This thought alone makes me SHUTTER. I hope this unites a City, a county, a state and a country that will send a message that EVIL will not prevail. Ferrer will no doubt forever be a Burden to society while he took such a Noble Man from Society that served his breathen daily. This should outrage even the most hardened. I hope Ferrer goes to the Pits of Brimestone. A bully indeed but a cowardly one at that.

This is just all kinds of wrong!! I’ll just quote the family spokesperson(s) and then add my thoughts.

“Our family is suffering the consequence of his bad decision that night,” said Karrie Lewandowski, Donovan’s great aunt.

SERIOUSLY???? He was drunk, which is obvious from another paragraph:

“Jayce is not a bad kid. He’s your average 26 year old,” said Donovan’s great uncle, Dale Lewandowski. “He went through a bottle of tequila, had a few too many drinks. He has never had a police record. He has never had a DUI.”

So, let me get this straight, he’s all forgiven because he’s never had a DUI before?

And finally, this lil nugget at the end:

“We’d like to send the message also that you cannot get behind the wheel of a car when you’re drinking or smoking marijuana. You just can’t,” Dale Lewandowski said.

WOW really??? If ever there were a case of to little to late, this is it! Had any of the adults that were at this party had used any good sense, this little boy would still be alive!!!

My husband is right, this whole family is in denial.
There is no justification in my mind for what happened to this little boy. NONE!

I apologize for being slow to respond to your query. This site is obviously something I do in my very limited spare time. I do attempt to respond to any and all questions or comments. Mandatory sentencing laws are not a new concept. Quite the contrary, the plea negotiation process as we know it is a much more recent construct. It presents many advantages, streamlining the criminal caseload immeasurably. But just as states have minimum and maximum penalties for various crimes, establishing some state standards in sentencing, suspensions, and the like is far from a radical proposal. mr. eldred in fact was just released from the hospital after brain suregery, he had glioblastoma stage 4 brain cancer and was not in his right frame of mind in fact he hadn’t been drinking at all, however he is guilty of sneaking his truck keys and asking the police to shoot him so his family didnt have to suffer and watch him pass away…. mr eldred did indeed pass away oct 2, 2012 and all charges were dropped!!! in fact mr eldred was a sponser for AA and has helped too many to count, he would never keep track, he was a wonderful man who had a tumor the size of a grapefruit removed from his brain, drunk driving blotters should get their stories straight
