Robert Lewis Frady, Jr.
An Upstate man is charged with felony DUI after crashing into another car and killing the driver while trying to elude police, according to Travelers Rest police.
A 70-year-old man died after a car accident Wednesday night, according to the Greenville County coroner Parks Evans.
The warrants say Robert Lewis Frady, Jr. is also charged with failure to stop for blue lights and driving under suspension.
Travelers Rest police say Frady was the driver of an SUV that was trying to elude police and crashed into Donald Ray Brown’s car on April 23 on Tubbs Mountain Road.
According to Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe, an officer observed a black SUV pass another car on a double yellow line headed toward the officer. The car actually came into the officer’s lane of traffic then got back into the proper lane.
After the SUV passed the officer, the officer turned on blue lights and siren, and turned around to try to stop the SUV, Crowe said.
According to Crowe, the SUV turned onto Tubbs Mountain Road at a far distance from the officer.
The officer considered all the circumstances and decided to call off the attempt to stop the SUV. The officer turned onto another street and turned off the lights and siren, said Crowe.
According to Crowe, the officer turned back onto Tubbs Mountain and started searching the area for the SUV. The officer came upon a two-car collision a short time later.
Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said Brown’s car was struck on the driver’s side by an SUV.
Police say that SUV was driven by Frady.
Brown was trapped in the vehicle and once extricated was flown to Greenville Memorial Trauma Center, where he died, Evans said.
