A Piedmont man was charged with felony DUI after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Anderson County, authorities said.
Troopers said the victim was walking east on State 86 at about 8 p.m. Tuesday when a pickup ran off the side of the road, struck the pedestrian and crashed into a fence.
The truck then left the scene, but a witness was able to get the tag number, said Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The driver was identified as Jason Yeargin, 33, of Piedmont, who was charged with felony DUI and hit and run involving death, according to the Highway Patrol and jail records.
Rhyne and jail records said Yeargin was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
Yeargin was booked into the Anderson County Detention Center late Tuesday night.
The pedestrian’s name has not been released.
