Charleston County sheriff’s deputies have charged a man with felony driving under the influence in connection with a wreck that killed a Johns Island teen Saturday afternoon.
James Bryson Munn, 20, of Blaine Court in Charleston, is also charged with being a minor in possession of beer or alcohol, according to sheriff’s deputies.
He will be booked at the Cannon Detention Center after he’s released from Medical University Hospital, Sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson said.
Kylie Gillette, 17, died at the scene of the wreck around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of River and Main roads, authorities said.
An incident report released Monday revealed that Munn was seen speeding past multiple cars in a 2006 Chevy Equinox shortly before the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle then over corrected, crossing the center line and striking Gillete’s 2011 Jeep Compass head on, the report said.
Officers who met with Munn at MUSC reported that he had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech, according to the report.
The felony DUI charge was Munn’s first in South Carolina, State Law Enforcement Division Records show.
