Lake Hartwell, SC: Boat Capsized; Woman Charged With DUI After 2 Children Die |

WSPA in Spartanburg reports that an Easley woman has been charged with felony DUI after a five-month old baby and a nine-year old child died after a boat capsized on Lake Hartwell Sunday.

Dawn Thompson, 53, is charged with two counts of felony DUI.

Robert McCullough with the department of Natural Resources says 12 people were on the boat when it capsized.

McCullough says the boat had been going in and out of the cove throughout Sunday and was returning when it went down.

Officials say the boat was between 100 and 200 feet from shore when it flipped.

The infant was recovered near the end of the boat dock in approximately 20 feet of water around 8:55 p.m.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore says the older child was airlifted to AnMed, but was already in cardiac arrest.

Thompson is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center.

A Manning woman has been arrested on DUI charges after authorities say she was involved in a wreck that killed one person and seriously injured another.

Tammy Brown, 45, has been charged with 2 counts of felony DUI 1 with death/1 with serious bodily injury, ABC violation and a seat belt violation.

Troopers say the crash occurred Saturday at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Highway 261.

They say Brown was traveling east on Highway 261 when she struck the rear of a 1994 Dodge Dakota Pickup Truck causing it turn off the right side of the roadway and crash into a tree.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota died and the the passenger was flown to the hospital with serious injuries.

Brown was transported to the hospital and is now being held at the Clarendon County Detention Center.

Troopers say no one involved in the accident was wearing their seat belt.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Moncks Corner, SC: Man charged with DUI in overnight fatality |

Michael Ronnie Stephens, 41, of Judith Drive in Summerville, is charged with driving under the influence, having an open container and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, He is accused of being the driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a pedestrian in Moncks Corner early Saturday.

A woman walking along U.S. Highway 17A was struck and killed early Saturday by a drunk driver who initially fled the scene, authorities said.

Sedaris Mabry, 55, was struck by a pickup truck as she was walking along North Live Oak Drive, also known as Highway 17A, near Berkeley Middle School, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said.

The pickup truck, which was towing a boat, was traveling south about 12:45 a.m. when it struck the pedestrian, said Sgt. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The pickup truck did not stop at the scene but was pulled over nearby later, Beres said.

The driver of the pickup, Michael Ronnie Stephens, 41, of Judith Drive in Summerville, is charged with driving under the influence, having an open container and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, Beres said. He was being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Stephens, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured, Beres said.

Charleston County, SC: Man, 20, charged with felony DUI in 17-year-old’s death |

Charleston County sheriff’s deputies have charged a man with felony driving under the influence in connection with a wreck that killed a Johns Island teen Saturday afternoon.

James Bryson Munn, 20, of Blaine Court in Charleston, is also charged with being a minor in possession of beer or alcohol, according to sheriff’s deputies.

He will be booked at the Cannon Detention Center after he’s released from Medical University Hospital, Sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson said.

Kylie Gillette, 17, died at the scene of the wreck around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of River and Main roads, authorities said.

An incident report released Monday revealed that Munn was seen speeding past multiple cars in a 2006 Chevy Equinox shortly before the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle then over corrected, crossing the center line and striking Gillete’s 2011 Jeep Compass head on, the report said.

Officers who met with Munn at MUSC reported that he had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech, according to the report.

The felony DUI charge was Munn’s first in South Carolina, State Law Enforcement Division Records show.

Sumter Co., SC: Two dead in Sunday DUI crash |

The Sumter County Coroner says a driver in a deadly accident Sunday was drunk. 65-year-old Ronald W. Holmes and his 7 year old grandson died in the wreck.

Coroner Harvin Bullock tells News19 that Holmes’ blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit to drive.

The SC Highway Patrol says Holmes was driving a Lincoln Town Car on North Main Street around 5:45 p.m. Sunday and crossed over the white line, hitting a 2003 Ford Expedition. The accident took place in front of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

6 people inside the Expedition were taken to hospitals for treatment. Some of the victims had to be airlifted from the scene.

A Clinton man faces felony DUI charges after a single-car crash on I-26 that claimed a teen girl’s life early Sunday morning.

Troopers with the SC Highway Patrol said the crash happened six miles south of Woodruff on the eastbound side of I-26, around 12:50 a.m.

Troopers said Rasheed Reeves, 23, was driving drunk when his 2005 Ford Crown Victoria ran off the left side of the roadway, then veered back across the interstate and hit a guard rail on the right side.

Troopers said Reeves and a 16-year-old Greenwood girl were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the car. Both were taken to the hospital where the girl later died.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Shykeria Lyle-Daja Watts of Cemetery Road.

The coroner said Watts died just before 3 a.m. An autopsy and toxicology exams have been ordered.

A third person was in the car and was not hurt, troopers said.

Reeves was subsequently charged with felony driving under the influence with death or great bodily injury, troopers said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a pedestrian died in an early-morning wreck Saturday in Spartanburg County.

Troopers said the crash happened on Chesnee Highway near Gossett Road at 1:20 a.m. ¬†Highway Patrol said Jason Barrett, 40, of Chesnee, was driving south on Chesnee Highway when his Dodge Avenger struck Doyle Ray Burke, 46, of Chesnee, who was walking down the highway. This caused Burke’s body to be flung into the northbound lane where he was struck by two other cars.

The Spartanburg County Coroner said Burke was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed.Troopers said Barrett has been charged with one count of felony driving under the influence and was taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center. Barrett and the other two drivers weren’t hurt.
