A Clinton man faces felony DUI charges after a single-car crash on I-26 that claimed a teen girl’s life early Sunday morning.
Troopers with the SC Highway Patrol said the crash happened six miles south of Woodruff on the eastbound side of I-26, around 12:50 a.m.
Troopers said Rasheed Reeves, 23, was driving drunk when his 2005 Ford Crown Victoria ran off the left side of the roadway, then veered back across the interstate and hit a guard rail on the right side.
Troopers said Reeves and a 16-year-old Greenwood girl were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the car. Both were taken to the hospital where the girl later died.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Shykeria Lyle-Daja Watts of Cemetery Road.
The coroner said Watts died just before 3 a.m. An autopsy and toxicology exams have been ordered.
A third person was in the car and was not hurt, troopers said.
Reeves was subsequently charged with felony driving under the influence with death or great bodily injury, troopers said.
