A father of three was killed trying to fix his car after it broke down during rush hour. It happened on the Loop 202 in Mesa. Officers say a drunk driver swerved into him.

42-year-old A. Jay Cotten, a father of three, was killed trying to fix his car on the side of the 202. He thought it would be a quick fix, but seconds later an SUV swerved into him.

Officers say 46-year-old Liane Corwin was driving drunk. She was arrested on a charge of reckless manslaughter, a class two felony.

DPS says her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit as she drove down the 202 during rush hour Thursday night.

A suspected drunk driver is facing a manslaughter charge after a collision at Thomas Road and 32nd Street in Phoenix over the weekend.

Mya Maung, 21, also faces one count of aggravated assault and two counts of endangerment.

According to court documents, a police officer in an unmarked car saw Maung enter the intersection on a red light just after midnight Saturday. A Pontiac Aztec SUV struck Maung’s 1998 Nissan sedan on the passenger side and both vehicles spun before coming to a rest.

A local woman has been released from the hospital and arrested following an alcohol-related vehicle collision that killed her passenger and injured another person Sunday night.

Operations Division Midtown officers and the Tucson Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-car collision in the area of East Golf Links Road and South Alvernon Way where Rede Maria Wamel Sotelo, 22, drove drunk and caused a car accident on April 7, police say.

Traffic Investigations Unit detectives arrived to further the investigation.It was determined that Sotelo was driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Tucson Police Department. She was transported to a local hospital to get treatment for her minor injuries.

Detectives learned that Sotelo was driving a Chevrolet truck southwest on East Golf Links Road in the curb lane. She struck the guardrail and overcorrected to the left, which caused her passenger to be thrown from the vehicle.

The passenger, 26-year-old Estevan David N. Zumano, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Sotelo then drove over the median into northbound/eastbound traffic and collided into the drivers side of a Ford Explorer. The Ford rolled over in the roadway, but the driver escaped the vehicle with minor injuries.

Sotelo was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail on 1 count of second degree murder, 1 count of criminal damage, and 1 count of endangerment.

A female motorcyclist died as a result of injuries she suffered when colliding with an SUV, at Rural and Broadway, Tuesday night.

21-year-old Elsa Tovar of Tempe was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. She is not an ASU student, Tempe Police Lt. Scott Smith said.

Tempe Police say the SUV was heading westbound and was attempting to make a left hand turn onto Rural Road as the motorcyclist was heading east on Broadway. Both vehicles then collided, just before 6 p.m.

Police say the driver of the SUV, 32-year-old Veronica Muckerman, was impaired by alcohol at the time of the collision. She had her 9-and 12-year-old daughters inside with her. The children were uninjured.

Muckerman was taken into custody on charges of aggravated DUI and manslaughter.

Three people were injured when a car slammed into a pedicab on Scottsdale Road early Friday morning. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the wreck.

It happened at about 3 a.m. near Rose Lane just north of McDonald Drive.

According to Officer David Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department, the pedicab, carrying two men, was heading north on Scottsdale Road. The pedicab was in the median lane to make a left turn when a Ford traveling the same direction hit it from behind.

The pedicab driver, identified as Saipaia J. Tavake, and one of his passengers were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center. The other passenger was taken to Maricopa Medical Center.

Police say the two passengers, Cody Clark and Michael Tysver, both 21, from Great Bend, Kan., suffered serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. Clark suffered severe head trauma and is still fighting for his life. Tysver suffered a spine injury and is listed serious but stable condition.

Tavake’s injuries were less serious. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Police have identified Joseph Paul Spano, 27, as the driver of the Ford. He was not hurt in the wreck, but video from the scene showed major damage to the front his car.

“Police investigating the collision observed signs of impairment on Mr. Spano, which lead to his arrest for DUI, Endangerment and Aggravated Assault,” reads the incident summary on the Scottsdale Police Department’s website.

Phoenix: Man dragged to his death by suspected drunk driver after fender bender | kpho.com

Police say a suspected drunken driver in a minor Phoenix accident ended up later injuring several people and dragging another person to his death.

Authorities say 66-year-old Jesus Jimenez was killed Saturday after police say he tried to talk to a suspected drunken driver following a fender bender. Police say the driver, identified as 20-year-old Isaac Richard Quesada, took off and dragged Jimenez several hundred feet.

According to authorities, Quesada then swerved into oncoming traffic and struck another car. Police say Jimenez was taken to a nearby hospital and later died from his injuries.

Quesada has been charged with several crimes including manslaughter and aggravated assault.

A San Jose high school graduate who was studying at Northern Arizona University was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night in Flagstaff, according to authorities.

Flagstaff police said 21-year-old Jordan A. Murphy-Mahoney was declared dead at the scene of the 11 p.m. accident.

They say Murphy-Mahoney, who graduated from Presentation High School in San Jose in 2009, was riding her bicycle and was hit by a truck that left the scene.

Witnesses gave police a detailed description of the vehicle involved. On Monday, police announced the arrest of 22-year-old Kelsey Lou Cody, of Flagstaff.

Police say Cody has been booked into the Coconino County Jail on suspicion of manslaughter and leaving the scene of an injury or fatal accident.

Investigators say they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Scottsdale: D’backs announcer Mark Grace picks up 2nd DUI charge | statesman.com

Mark Grace is taking an indefinite leave of absence from his job as television color analyst for the Arizona Diamondbacks after his second drunken driving arrest in 15 months in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale, Ariz.

The team said in a news release that Grace was taking the leave “to seek personal assistance.” The Diamondbacks added that due to the nature of Grace’s request, it would not comment further on the matter.

Scottsdale police said Friday that Grace was arrested on a suspected DUI on Thursday night.

Grace, 48, was pulled over on a Scottsdale street for having an expired registration plate displayed on his vehicle, according to Sgt. Mark Clark, a police spokesman.

He said Grace submitted to a blood draw and was released “pending complaint filing for aggravated DUI and other related charges.”

Clark said Grace was driving his vehicle without a required interlock device and that his license was suspended for a prior DUI in Scottsdale on May 30, 2011.

A drummer for classic rocker Ted Nugent faces several charges after police in Bangor, Maine, say he was seen driving drunk in a golf cart stolen from a concert venue.

Officers working at Nugent’s Sunday night concert were told that 55-year-old Mick Brown was intoxicated, had stolen the cart and was driving it recklessly on a foot path. Police say when officers tried to stop the cart, Brown sped past them and shoved a security officer. Two security officers then removed Brown from the cart, and he was arrested.

Brown, of Cave Creek, Ariz., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger, theft and assault. He was released on $4,000 bail.

Scottsdale, AZ: 93-year-old man arrested for DUI, resisting officers | KSAZ-TV

A 93-year-old Scottsdale man has been arrested for DUI.

According to police, Julius Elmer Grosso drove drunk after drinking scotch at Scottsdale sports bar Saturday night.

A Zipp’s receipt shows he had six shots in two hours.

An employee tried to convince Grosso to take a cab, and when he had trouble pulling out of his parking space, that employee called police.

An officer responded and contacted Grosso. According to the police report, Grosso’s eyes were watery and his speech was slurred.

A records check shows Grosso’s license had been revoked for a prior DUI.

Grosso was allegedly uncooperative and refused to exit his vehicle. Two officers apparently had to pull him out of the vehicle and put him into handcuffs.

Grosso was booked into jail on charges of aggravated DUI, failure to obey an officer and resisting an order to control a motor vehicle.

A mother of three young children was killed in a head-on crash in Phoenix Tuesday night. Police say the driver who slammed into her was drunk.

We were there as officers took him to jail. He driver arrested as soon as he was released from the hospital.

Police say the real victims are three kids who were waiting for their mom to come home last night and she never did.

Still wearing his hospital gown, 21-year-old Alejandro German was taken to jail, accused of driving drunk and killing a mother of three.

“The silver car was just torn to pieces,” says witness Don Hummel.

Police say German was driving a white van at 70 miles an hour down Indian School when he lost control, slamming head-on into the silver car.

“He admitted to speeding he also indicated that he had been drinking beers throughout the evening at a friend’s house,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, died on scene.

When police tried to notify the 30-year-old’s family, they went to her house. Her three kids, 11, 6, and 7, were inside waiting for mom to come home.

Police had trouble finding an adult family member, so the kids were taken into state custody.

Police tell us they think they have found a family member. These kids have been through enough and they’re hoping to reunite them with family soon.

The victim was identified as Alma Dolores Moran Hernandez.

Summer vacation is off to a tragic start at a high school in Mesa.

A suspected drunk driver, who police say was going the wrong way on the freeway , slammed into a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old student from Desert Ridge High School Monday night.

Olivia Wilson, a junior and member of the school’s volleyball team, died in the accident.

Tuesday morning, Desert Ridge student Marissa Arbuckle got a text from the volleyball coach that Wilson died the night before.

“She was a great person,” Arbuckle said. “It feels like a dream. It doesn’t seem real.”

Investigators say as Wilson drove south on Interstate 17, she came upon a suspected drunk driver going the wrong way.

The two cars collided near the Van Buren Street exit.

The wrong way driver died instantly and so did Wilson.

San Tan Valley, AZ: Drunk driving accident leads to fatality

 On 05-25-12 at approximately 1925 hours Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls in reference to a wrongway driver. A silver 2002 Hyundai Sonata operated by 47 year old San Tan Valley resident Mr. Daniel Michael Carrube 05-31-64 was observed traveling east on Ocotillo in the west bound lanes as he approached Ironwood Drive. Several motorists stated “it was if was trying to hit oncoming traffic”. Mr. Carrube reached the intersection of Ironwood & Ocotillo which was displaying a red signal light, however Mr. Carrube entered the intersection endangering the lives of many where he struck a ford F150 on the driver side, occupied by San Tan residents Larry Wycoff, his wife and two children.

Upon striking the Wycoff family Daniel Carrube attempted to flee the scene at a high rate of speed entering the common areas in front of the Walgreens pharmacy plowing down several bushes and signs. Daniel entered onto Gantzel traveling southbound in the Northbound lanes. Daniel jumped the curb into the center median and began driving south where he re entered Gantzel once again traveling south in the Northbound traffic lanes. Mr. Carrube crossed three lanes of travel striking the curb at the entrance to McDonald’s where he continued to drive south down the sidewalk into another common area where he ultimately struck a concrete jersey barrier protecting the high powered electrical lines supplying power to many of the homes in the area.

Several people came to Daniels aid attempting to render life saving efforts, however their efforts were unsuccessful.

Former Arizona Wildcats guard Josiah Turner has been arrested on suspicion of DUI by UA campus police, a UAPD official said Sunday.

Turner was arrested within the past week, but no further details nor a full police report were available today, said UAPD officer Joe Bermudez.

Turner, 19, will transfer after he was suspended twice during last season for unspecified violations of team rules, the University announced earlier this month.

Court documents released Monday revealed new details about a deadly car crash in Mesa early Sunday morning.

According to police, Mark William Clary, 24, was driving his 2008 Chevrolet Corvette “at an extremely high rate of speed” when he slammed into the back of a Chevrolet sedan on the eastbound US 60 between Alma School Road and Dobson Road. That was just after 3:00 a.m.

The rear-seat passenger of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. He has been identified as 22-year-old Giacomo Masolini, a student at ASU.
