A driver faces drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter charges after his car triggered a chain reaction crash early Sunday on Highway 101 near Burlingame that killed his wife and injured nine others.
The accident began at about 2:05 a.m. when the driver, later identified as 43-year-old Raul Padilla, lost control of his red Honda coupe and crashed into the highway’s center divider, according to CHP Officer Art Montiel.
When the car finally came to a stop, it was facing the wrong direction in a southbound lane of U.S. Highway 101 in the vicinity of Burlingame.
Moments after the Honda came to a halt, it collided with the front of a party bus with 18 people on board. Two other cars were also involved in the collision.

While authorities have yet to confirm the name of the 36-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene, the San Francisco Chronicle identified the car accident victim as burlesque performer Sarah Klein, who goes by the stage name “Sparkly Devil.”
