The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal accident in 2010 was sentenced to 45 days in jail Tuesday after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.
Edna Hancock, 57, of Nenana, was driving a 1993 Chevy Suburban that collided with a 2003 Chevy Cavalier on the Parks Highway near Ester on Dec. 21, 2010. The only passenger in the Cavalier, Andrea Ruby, 28, of Dillingham, was prounounced dead at the scene. The driver, Jerry Hunt, 24, of Dillingham, was seriously injured and was flown to Anchorage for treatment.
Hancock was also seriously injured in the crash and flown to Anchorage for treatment. Troopers, unable to interview Hancock because she was unconscious, obtained a search warrant for her medical records, which revealed she had marijuana in her system and a blood alcohol content of 0.279.
