“Please don’t call the police, I’m drunk.”

That was the first thing Linda resident Jose Lopez was told by a 16-year-old driver Saturday morning after a vehicle crashed into a pole and a parked car in front of Lopez’s house, killing one person.

Coti Leal, 16, of Olivehurst, died in the single-vehicle wreck on Feather River Boulevard around 3:30 a.m.

Three others, including the driver, were also hurt.

The California Highway Patrol has refused to release their identities.

“I went outside and the car was upside down; there was sparks shooting everywhere and two kids crawled out of the upside down car and just took off running away,”
